the news

This is the email that I sent out on 30 November. I honestly don't remember writing it or sending it.
One big correction::: the type of Leukemia Martin has is APL, acute promyelocytic Leukemia. NOT ALR.
sorry about that!

Good morning friends and family,

This is an email that I never ever wanted to start my day with- but I know that as so many of you know and love Martin, the thought that you would take this to the Lord is so very precious to us.

Most of you probably don't know that Martin has been very ill for a little more than 2 weeks, at home and in bed. It started with fevers and a tooth ache. As we treated him for the flu and he was resting more and more, his tooth ache became unbearable. The dentist went ahead and removed it, but the infection around it and space where the tooth was never healed.

He has been to the doctors/dentist everyday this week to check on his tooth extraction that hasnt healed. Today, they sent him to the hospital for some tests, and it turns out that this is just the beginning. Martin has leukemia, which is cancer of the blood. We have just learned that it is the 'best' kind- ALR- (answered prayer number 1). It is a rare kind, but is one where they have a very effective treatment. A treatment that has good possibility of remission and eventually being out-patient. We are VERY thankful for his tooth problem which allowed the doctors to catch it so early. This really could have saved his life.

At the very least, he will be in the hospital for 6 weeks. Chemotherapy starts this morning.

He (and I) are in a little bit of shock and don't know exactly what these next weeks will look like.

We are so incredibly thankful to have you in our lives and we will be in touch as we know more.

He has wifi on his phone and I'm sure he would love any thoughts or notes- Martin.hasik@gmail.com

Once again, we treasure your prayers. We know and understand that this will be a significant time for us in our family and in our faith- but we desperately need the Lord.

with lots of love,
Jane
